Las Cruces

Last weekend we had the chance to go down to Las Cruces with Grandma Key to see Aunt Sarah and Uncle Randy. Unfortunately, I had a meeting to go to on Monday morning, so we could only stay for a day. Kaylee had a good time getting passed around and held by everybody. She got to spend a lot of time with Aunt Sarah especially.

Sarah's dog, Jax, was really excited and kept trying to come investigate the squirming thing everyone was looking at. We weren't able to get a picture of it, but the look on Kaylee's face was priceless when Jax came up to her and licked her head. :)

It turns out Randy had never held a baby before! He seemed afraid to move, but really he did just fine. Kaylee just curled up in his arms and started dozing off.

While we were down there, I also picked up some toys for her. I got her a play mat that has arches over it for toys to hang from so she can either use it for tummy time, or lie on her back and look at the colorful toys hanging from it. She really seems to like looking at the colors and watching the toys swing as she kicks. I also found some soft blocks, but she hasn't really noticed those yet.

Another picture from the trip, I just got a kick out of how red her eyes came out. Early Halloween picture? :)

Took me long enough!

Well, it's been almost two months since Kaylee made her first appearance in our home, and I'm finally starting this blog! I'm not sure what to say today, so we'll start with catching up on the last couple months.
Kaylee was born on August 23, at 4:40 pm, just missing my birthday by a day. Sarah took this picture that evening before she and Randy had to drive back home to Las Cruces. Even on her first day with us, she was already wide-eyed and alert.

She put up with being swaddled for a few days, until her preferred method of sleeping involved stretching her limbs every which way.

Sometimes she falls asleep during tummy time...

...but most of the time there's so much to look at, she watches everything with big blue eyes.

Lately, she's been working on her smile...

...and just the other day, she rolled over (front to back) for the first time. It's also easier for her to look at what she wants now that she can hold her head steady.

As fall sets in, we've learned to appreciate footie pajamas- as she seems immune to swaddling and socks, only pajamas have conquered her flailing arms and kicking feet!
Hopefully I can keep the camera handy and remember to update this often! Until next time... :)
